After a really rough start to the project, things are going much better. I would like to extend a special thank you to Kattie's sister Melissa for helping us figure out why our chicks weren't surviving. Once we got things figured out in the brooder, things have gone very smooth. The chicks are over twice the size they were when we got them.
Another addition to our little flock in the past week was my boss' rooster. He was being too aggressive with his little kids, so he gave him to me for a little while so that we can have some eggs to hatch out and replace our older hens. We have affectionately named him Vern. Vern gives us a little wake up call outside our window each morning. Lucky for us the time changed recently so that Vern isn't waking us up too early.
Ha, I'm guessing this is Ben writing, right? Pretty funny writer! I like how you guys are calling this "project fried chicken!" bahaha. Glad the chicks are surviving now! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteVern is a beauty! I can't wait to come visit this summer and let Brooks see your set up there. He always wants a little hobby farm, and we both love fried chicken! :)
ReplyDeleteVern looks like my Aunt Evelyn's rooster from when I was little. Such a classic gentlemanly-looking dude, even if he's not really a gentleman.
ReplyDeleteWhat turned out to be the problem with your little chick nursery?
I love watching your chicken project come along. I think this type of thing is important, if you can do it. That would be my dream. Ahhh...some day!
